Indeed Mr Heath, ‘why pea?’ indeed… Personally I would dearly love to take my boyfriend along to Raoul Men’s Shop for a pair of brown cossack boots. And elephant cord trousers, why is elephant cord so maligned these days? The lack of these things in the world today is why life has become so dull and dreary.

  1. My favourite pair of winter trousers are a vintage German pair in black elephant cord with leather reinforcements and big brass double zippers either side of the front, like a sort of punky sailor’s or Regency gent’s fall-fronted trousers. They’re FANTASTIC for really cold days as they keep out the wind like nobody’s business, Only problem is, they’re also super-stiff.

Of course, I drooled on chocolate brown elephant cord cushions as a wee little newborn… this is probably why I feel such an affinity with it.
