Back! And front, and side. Fabulous from all angles

bus stop, cathy mcgowan, clobber, dove clothing company, jean varon, jeff banks, john bates, lee bender, seventies fashion, sixties, website listings

For various tedious reasons, I’ve been a bit quiet on the old website listing front in the past month. But I’m feeling much perkier now, more inspired and oh boy have I got a lot of goodies (just listed, and in the works…). Watch out world!

Right now I’ve just listed an incredible John Bates for Jean Varon dress (1973, just check out the original advert from Vogue), a chocolate brown rayon crepe Lee Bender for Bus Stop beauty, a Dove Clothing Company deep cobalt blue cord maxi dress (perfect for walking through wintry landscapes), a super romantic cream damask Clobber (a.k.a Jeff Banks) dress with flutter sleeves and trailing ribbons….and finally, a slinky blue Cathy McGowan dress with the most gorgeous sleeves and pleated front detail. Yeah, Cathy McGowan….that’s pretty darned rare!

Have just screamed so loudly via IM (poor, poor Charley) that I've given myself a headache. I must defend all true modettes by saying that I'd sooner push Cathy McGowan off Brighton Pier than accept her as our Queen. We prefer Dusty Springfield for her music… or whenever I mention Maureen Starkey as a fashion /hair / make-up substitute everyone agrees she was above Ms McGowan as a modette in the early 60s. …and I'll never forgive the woman for being so snobby to all the decent musicians on RSG while being matey with Dave flamin Clark. Boohiss….and I'm going to give Mr Townshend a right rollocking for the whole Quad gig McGowan debacle at some point. How very dare he. The idiot.Anyway, the Bates dress is divine, and I shall try my absoloute best not to glare daggers at the McGowan while visiting. I suppose it's not the poor dress's fault. It quite possibly has no actual connection with the woman at all. Poor 60s dress. …maybe I won't hiss at it. Maybe I'll make it a cup of tea and talk soothingly to it instead. I won't feed it chocolate biscuits though, it might make a mess.

Ooo, that jean Varon is beyond lovely! That ad makes me want to wear it right now- though yours looks a little shorter, no? Hmmm, maybe I should go look at the measurements…
