You no longer need time on your hands and London on your doorstep to keep slightly ahead of fashion. Now many of the brighter boutiques sell their clothes by post, and it is as easy to dress well in the Hebrides as in Kensington. For example, Ossie Clark’s screen-printed silk skirt and flowing smock (above) can be ordered separately from Just Looking, 88 King’s Road, London SW3 and 5-7 Brompton Road, SW3. The smock costs £34.10, the skirt £56.65 (plus 25p post and packing).

Browns, 27 South Molton Street, London W1, will send the red and white Indian cotton slip dress (left) for £25, plus 55p post and packing.

The Sonia Rykiel collection at Browns includes the maribou jacket, £28, sweater, £16, and waistcoat, £15. The pleated skirt, £21, is also from Browns.

The yellow trouser suit of Missoni's knits (right) costs £65 from Browns. Shoes by Pierre Cardin, £17.50, from Charles Jourdan.

Wow! How fabulous are these? I love them all but the Ossie is my favourite. That print! Hope you're good xx
I SO want the hair in the 2nd pic, and the Ossie too , of course
Gorgeous spread – I'll take one of each! xx
I have a dress in that first print!
Oh how lovely. The early forerunners of ASOS and Net-A-Porter. Mind you, I am suspicious of postal boutiques ever since one packaged my wedding dress badly (it was OK, but there was a moment of "I can't look" and my mum had to come round to take it out of the remains of the parcel).
Hi my dear-wow, lovely outfits here and I do like the Sonia Rykiel outfit at Browns, of course the Ossie is gorgeous too x
Ah, just lush. I'd take it all!
Egads that some serious gorgeousness going on there and with spare change;)).
HelloJust wanted to ask, where did this image come from:http://silk-rayon.tumblr.com/post/5915270832/gala-mitchell-wearing-an-ossie-clark-dress-viaIs it from a documentary/video?O
I'm totally on the look-out for a blue trouser suit like the last pic – and if I find it will be wearing with the same hairstyle for sure. Awesome pics. x
