Vintage Adverts: Black goes with everything…

1970s, cosmopolitan, faux fur, flares, Guinness, hats, hotpants, maxis, platforms, Vintage Adverts

guinness september 1973

Necklines rise and plunge. Hemlines fall and rocket up again. Bottoms are in and out, bosoms come and go, colours wax and wane, waists move up and down, then vanish and re-appear. Only one thing remains calm, constant and reliable. And that’s black. Good to look at. Restrained. Dramatic. At home in any company. Our own little black number is a case in point. It goes with everything. It’s dry, clean-tasting and elegant. And it’s called Guinness.

I basically want to look like the girl on the left, but I’m dubious about my ability to ‘pull off’ the whole over-knee striped socks and hotpant ensemble. Might just stick with the make-up and hair…

Hotpant Sweetener/Tangerine Dream

1970s, glam rock, hotpants, Vintage Adverts

Personally, I think artificial sweeteners are the very devil, but I cannot deny the fabulousness of the photograph they’ve used to promote their evil ways (yes, yes, I know it’s from 1971, but still…). The bed reminds me of my grandparents’ bed (which I always coveted in a slightly Bedknobs and Broomsticks kind of way), I love the light fitting, mirrors and of course the clothes go without saying.

Smartie Pants

Shorts have been with us for some time now – “hot pants” making even starlets front page news – but the big question was whether they were here to stay, or were just a gimmick. Increasing sales seem to show that they are really catching on, and now the big stores are stocking them. For those with the youth and legs to enjoy them, we bring the very latest designs.

Lazy August Days….

british boutique movement, chelsea girl, Eighties Fashion, goth, hotpants, jeff banks, louis caring, paraphernalia, sarah whitworth, seventies fashion, sixties, website listings

But I can’t stop working. Apologies for the mixed bag of listings, we’re still straddling two seasons at the moment (fashion-wise) so I’m trying to keep it light but trans-seasonal. This is harder than you might think. I’m also working on Autumn-orientated listings which will be coming towards the end of the month in preparation for a luscious September (fingers crossed). I might sneak the odd incredible designer piece on the block before then though, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

But what am I talking about? I’ve got a few amazing pieces just listed now, including Jeff Banks, Louis Caring, Paraphernalia and Sarah Whitworth.

Incidentally, if any of my gorgeous readers/customers/friends/family aren’t already aware, Lulu’s Vintage are holding their annual vote for best vintage site. I would really appreciate your votes, but only if you feel like it and if you feel I deserve it! I might not be able to give you actual sweeties as a bribe, but I can give you very delicious images such as the one above! 😉

Thank you xx
