Always the same definite hand-writing, developed season after season, but such sure grasp of colour and how to make women look sexy that’s she’s become one of the most copied designers for knits and dresses. This spring, she continues her layered look, has a longer bodyline and belts to leave flying or tie under a gently bloused top. Milky pink sweater with long sleeves and small ties edged in raspberry, under pink mohair sweater with pink fine jersey culottes. The small-head look comes from tiny tight-fitting cap with strings. Palest aquamarine sweater with a frilled neckline and ties with matching flowers, worn with a fitting jersey skirt and the tight skull cap. Mulberry printed voile dress (opposite) with deep plain flounce at the hem, with a matching head-dress, held in place with a plaited woollen band like a sheik.

Inspirational Editorials: Looks like luxury

This luxury’s a look, a feel and a fact, and nothing to do with money. It’s satin and silver and velvet and ciré, it’s snowy fake-fur. We show it in layers. You look like a million dollars. Alice Pollock of Quorum designed this satin lingerie to be the softest thing next to your skin. There’s a small bra, shaped quite naturally, knickers that button to the side, and a languid caped dressing-gown that fastens once and touches your toes. All spun round with satin ribbons and made in the most appealing pale shades – magnolia, pink or powder blue.

Boy iD May 87 Sandro Hyams

All set to replace the Fiorucci First swimsuit classic is the stars and stripes range from BOY. Perfect for poolside posing (as is anything from BOY these days) these natty one pieces also lend themselves to watery pursuits and are specially made so as not to discolour in chlorine, unlike some designer dip suits. Wear them downt he lido or save them for evening. The lycra tight tops under your strides are just the ticket for stress free strutting ,and boys will no doubt be pleased to see the stars and stripes trunks which, as we all know, are the perfect acessory to wear over the trousers of any pinstripe suit.

Further adventures in Midnight Blue…

You may, or may not, remember my earlier posts about Peter Burden’s Midnight Blue shop of 186 Fulham Road. Here is a superb shoot by Clive Arrowsmith of a young Greta Scacchi wearing Midnight Blue clothes from 1978. Looking at Peter’s email again, I can’t help but wonder if the ‘Carol Lee’ he mentions might be the same Carole Lee who designed this exquisite silk top (still available to buy) at Vintage-a-Peel?
