Plum panne velvet skirt with rose pink appliqued flowers by Orte for Bombacha. Boa and beaded chiffon blouse also from Bombacha. Plum shoes by Sacha.

This is possibly one of the most perfect editorials I’ve seen in Vogue. Unshowy, basic, starkly-lit, but the clothes are mouthwatering. Plus, I am delighted to spot a pair of much loved (and much worn recently) velvet culottes from Wallis from my own wardrobe. It just goes to show, with a little bit of patience you can sometimes turn the dream into a reality…

There aren’t many accessories shoots worthy of scanning – the majority tend to be fairly static and unimaginative. So kudos to Andreas Heumann for this gorgeous set of pictures which manage to do justice to the contents.

“I have to have the best. Life is too short without it. What I really love is simple perfection…”

Marc Bohan in the courtyard of his apartment, with ” a completely different look for evening… It’s casual but very exciting. The whole thing has an idea of throwaway luxe which I love…” coral crepe lamé smock, deeper coral crepe georgette camisole over cigarette straight trousers.

Really this is more about inspirational architecture. How extraordinary is that courtyard? Like something from a fantasy film. Does it still exist? Anyone?

Shoe Porn: Perspex platforms by Chelsea Cobbler

1970s, chelsea cobbler, Illustrations, Inspirational Images, jean varon, john bates, Michael English, Vogue
richard smith for chelsea cobbler

Perspex multi-speckled leather sandal, £35, Richard Smith for The Chelsea Cobbler. Spangled djellaba by John Bates at Jean Varon.

It’s a great shame that the perspex platform has become so indelibly linked with pole dancing and general modern “Made in China” market stall tat, because they had such a gorgeous pedigree from the Forties, and later in the Seventies. These are by the great Richard Smith for Chelsea Cobbler, beautifully hand-painted for Vogue by Michael English.
